If you’re trying to set up a Smart Export Guarantee with a supplier, here are three key questions and tips to assist you with common queries and ensure a smooth setup.
Basic information about the scheme: How do I register? With who? What do I need?
Visit: the government’s webpage on SEG
The supplier is asking me for a letter from my distribution network provider. Where can I find that?
Your installer should be able to provide that letter, as we (the distribution network operator) issue it to them once they send us an installation notification. If one isn’t available, we can help.
First, confirm we are your distribution network operator*. If we are, please send an email to [email protected].
*You can do this by either checking your MPAN (it will start with 31), or check online on www.powercut105.com.
What is an export MPAN?
An export Meter Point Administrator Number (MPAN) is an industry reference for a unique 13-digit reference number given to identify where electricity is fed into the grid. It helps to ensure exported electricity is measured accurately and payments/credits owed are assigned to the correct account.
The supplier will create that for you once you have provided them with all they need. We’ll get involved in the process, but with the supplier directly, you don’t need to get in touch with us about it.
Where can I find my MPAN?
It’s found on your electricity bill. In most cases, it is an import MPAN (for electricity you consume). For premises with an electricity generation device that exports to the network, there should be an export MPAN. This will feature on the Feed In Tariff or Smart Export Guarantee bills/credit notes you get from your supplier. Please note: your import and export supplier can be different.
I need an MCS certificate, where can I find it?
This can be provided to you by the installer or, if the company does not exist anymore, by the standards’ organisation MCS Service Company. For full guidance, visit: MCS Certificate Queries – MCS
